This will be a temporary forum specificly for the gripper. It's always good to carpool anyway, and the gripper is especially important due to to limited parking. Get organized in this forum and ride with friends.

Looking at last year's Gripper, and I'm guessing the divisions will be the same this year, I'm wondering where I would best fit in. I'm not a beginner, but I've never actually climbed at e-rock (I've been out there a lot, but not since I really started climbing). I can do climbs on the greenbelt that are rated 5.10, but don't know how the ratings there compare to those of the routes at e-rock.

any suggestions?

There's definitely a place for you in the Gripper. It's a pretty relaxed, fun comp.

My suggestion is: go there and climb. It's a bit hot now, but if you get there early it's not bad, especially in the shady areas like triple cracks. Thing is, the rock is so different from limestone (or most other granite for that matter) that you need to get on it to get the feeling for what you like. The holds and the moves are quite different, and you may find that you climb at a higher or lower level, depending on your style and preferences.

Oh yeah: don't forget to take your climbing tape.

This forum is about carpooling right??

I'm out in the Bee Cave area, and it would be great if someone could swing by and grab me. Contact me at stiltz1291@sbcglobal.net to discuss logistics.

Thanks!
